TPSM82913 vs TPSM82916 | 3A vs 6A Low-Noise Power Modules
Mfr. Part #: TPSM82913 / TPSM82916
Manufacturer: Texas Instruments (TI)
Package/Case: TPSM82913 — 28-Pin RDU B0QFN, 4.5mm × 5.5mm × 1.8mm; TPSM82916 — 16-Pin VCE QFN-FCMOD, 4.0mm × 4.7mm × 3.0mm
Description: 17V low-noise synchronous buck power modules with integrated inductors, providing 3A or 6A output current and supporting an optional second-stage ferrite-bead filter for ripple below 10µVRMS.
RFQ

The Texas Instruments TPSM82913 and TPSM82916 are high-efficiency synchronous buck power modules designed for noise-sensitive loads that might otherwise require an LDO post-regulator.

Both devices integrate the power MOSFETs, controller, inductor and loop compensation. They are suitable for powering high-speed ADCs, clocks, jitter cleaners, SerDes devices, radar circuits and test equipment.

The primary difference is output current: the TPSM82913 supports 3A, while the TPSM82916 supports 6A.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main difference between TPSM82913 and TPSM82916?

The TPSM82913 supports up to 3A, while the TPSM82916 supports up to 6A. They also differ in package size, package height, MOSFET resistance and switching-frequency options.

Do both modules automatically achieve less than 10µVRMS ripple?

No. The below-10µVRMS specification applies when the recommended external second-stage ferrite-bead filter is used.

Are TPSM82913 and TPSM82916 pin-compatible?

No. The TPSM82913 uses a 28-pin RDU package, while the TPSM82916 uses a 16-pin VCE package. A PCB redesign is required when changing between them.

Which device has the smaller package?

The TPSM82916 has the smaller board footprint at 4.0mm × 4.7mm. The TPSM82913 is thinner, measuring approximately 1.8mm high instead of 3.0mm.

Should I use TPSM82916 for a load below 3A?

It can be selected when additional transient-current margin, a smaller board footprint or the 1.4MHz frequency option is required. The TPSM82913 may be preferable when lower package height is more important.
