MKP386M Snubber Capacitors for IGBT and High-Pulse Applications
Vishay MKP386M is a metallized polypropylene film capacitor series designed for snubber circuits in IGBT modules and other high-pulse power electronics. Its low ESR, low-inductance construction and pulse slope capability of up to 2500 V/µs help suppress voltage overshoot, current ringing and EMI.
The series covers 0.047 µF to 10 µF and 700 VDC to 2500 VDC, with multiple terminal configurations for mounting on PCBs, IGBT modules and GTO modules.

Typical Applications
MKP386M snubber capacitors are suitable for:
IGBT collector-emitter snubbers
High-power inverter switching stages
Photovoltaic and energy-storage inverters
Wind-power converters
Industrial motor drives
Variable-frequency drives
Welding power supplies
UPS and power-conditioning equipment
High-frequency power converters
GTO and high-pulse semiconductor modules
MKP386M is a snubber capacitor rather than a bulk DC-link energy-storage capacitor. A complete converter may require both DC-link capacitors and separate MKP386M devices mounted at the switching modules.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is MKP386M designed for direct mounting on IGBT modules?
Yes. Vishay specifies MKP386M for PCB, IGBT-module and GTO-module mounting. Select the correct T1–T8 terminal version by checking module spacing, terminal dimensions and mechanical drawings.
What is the maximum voltage rating of MKP386M?
The series includes ratings from 700 VDC to 2500 VDC. Available capacitance decreases as voltage rating increases, so voltage and capacitance must be selected together.
Which model provides 1 µF at 1000 VDC?
The base ordering code is MKP386M510100J**. It is rated for 725 V/µs and 725 A peak current. The terminal code must be added to complete the part number.
Which MKP386M model is suitable for very high dV/dt?
Low-capacitance 2500 VDC versions offer the highest pulse slope. For example, MKP386M410250J** is 0.10 µF, 2500 VDC and rated at 2500 V/µs. Selection must still consider peak current, voltage waveform and mounting inductance.
Can MKP386M be used as an across-the-line safety capacitor?
Not as a direct substitute for an approved X- or Y-class safety capacitor. Vishay states that the series is not suitable for unprotected across-the-line mains use. Use a safety-certified capacitor where the application requires compliance with mains interference-suppression standards.
Is MKP386M available from stock?
Availability depends on capacitance, voltage, tolerance and terminal configuration. Submit the complete part number, required quantity and target delivery date for stock and lead-time confirmation.
