Description: 27.3–33.5GHz 2W GaAs pHEMT MMIC power amplifier for Ka-band radio, VSAT and satellite communication systems
RFQ

The HMC906 is a four-stage GaAs pHEMT MMIC power amplifier covering 27.3GHz to 33.5GHz.

Its RF input and output are internally DC blocked and matched to 50Ω, reducing external matching requirements when integrating the die into multi-chip modules or microwave assemblies.

Typical RF performance includes:

  • 23dB gain

  • +34dBm saturated output power

  • 22% power-added efficiency

  • +43dBm output IP3

  • +6V supply

  • 1200mA supply current

These specifications made HMC906 suitable for high-power Ka-band transmitter stages.

Typical Applications

The HMC906 was designed for applications including:

  • Point-to-point microwave radios

  • Point-to-multipoint radios

  • VSAT terminals

  • Satellite communication systems

  • Ka-band transmitters

  • Military communication systems

  • Space applications

  • Microwave multi-chip modules

ADI specifically lists point-to-point radio, point-to-multipoint radio, VSAT, military and space applications for the HMC906.

HMC906 Replacement

Hittite / Analog Devices recommends considering HMC7441 as the replacement for HMC906, but the EOL notice clearly states that it is not a drop-in replacement.

What About HMC906A-DIE?

The HMC906A-DIE is an updated version of the same 27.3–33.5GHz 2W amplifier concept and offers approximately:

  • 26.5dB gain

  • +33.5dBm saturated output power

  • 20% PAE

  • +6V / 1200mA operation

However, Analog Devices currently also lists HMC906A-DIE as Obsolete, so it should not normally be selected as a long-term replacement for new designs.

For new designs, HMC7441 is the more appropriate ADI option to evaluate.

FAQ

Is HMC906 obsolete?

Yes. Analog Devices currently lists HMC906 and HMC906-SX as Obsolete.

What frequency range does HMC906 cover?

HMC906 operates from 27.3GHz to 33.5GHz.

What is the output power of HMC906?

Typical saturated output power is approximately +34dBm, corresponding to roughly 2.5W RF output power.

What is the gain of HMC906?

Typical small-signal gain is approximately 23dB.

What is the output IP3?

The HMC906 provides approximately +43dBm output IP3.

What package does HMC906 use?

It is supplied as a bare MMIC die, approximately 3.18 × 2.73 × 0.10mm.

Why was HMC906 discontinued?

The original Hittite EOL notification states that the product was discontinued because of loss of supply chain.

What is the replacement for HMC906?

Analog Devices recommends evaluating HMC7441, but it is not a drop-in replacement and covers a narrower 27.5–31GHz frequency range.
