CQB100W8 vs CQB150W8: 9–75V Railway DC-DC Selection
The CINCON CQB100W8 and CQB150W8 are isolated quarter-brick DC-DC converter series designed for railway and industrial power systems with widely varying input voltages.
Both series provide a 9–75VDC input range, 3000VAC input-to-output isolation and output options from 5V to 54V. The main selection difference is available output current: the CQB100W8 supports applications around 100W, while the CQB150W8 provides additional power capacity for higher-load equipment.

Which Series Should You Choose?
Choose CQB100W8 when:
The continuous load is approximately 100W or less.
Full-load operation near the lower end of the 9–75V input range is required.
The available output current meets the system requirement.
Lower input current and reduced thermal dissipation are design priorities.
Choose CQB150W8 when:
The load exceeds the CQB100W8 output-current limit.
Additional power margin is required for communication, control or passenger-information equipment.
The normal input voltage is 12VDC or higher.
The cooling system can support the higher thermal load.
For either series, the final output capability must be checked against the CINCON thermal derating curves. Airflow, heatsink selection, baseplate temperature and input voltage can affect the available continuous power.
Typical Applications
Railway communication and control systems
Passenger information systems
Onboard CCTV and monitoring equipment
Train network and gateway equipment
Door-control and auxiliary electronics
Industrial systems with unstable DC input supplies
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the main difference between CQB100W8 and CQB150W8?
The primary difference is output-current capacity. The CQB150W8 supplies more current at every available output voltage, while both series use the same 9–75V input range and quarter-brick dimensions.
2. Can the CQB150W8 deliver 150W from a 9V input?
Not at full load. The datasheet specifies 80% loading in the 9–12V input region. Full-load operation is specified from 12V to 75V, subject to model-specific output and thermal derating.
3. Which model should be selected for a 5V output?
The CQB100W8-36S05 supplies up to 20A, while the CQB150W8-36S05 supplies up to 25A. The CQB150W8 5V version therefore has a maximum output of 125W rather than 150W.
4. Are the converters EN 50155 compliant without external components?
No. CINCON specifies EN 50155 and EN 55032 compliance with the required external circuits. The application note should be followed when designing the input filter, surge protection and hold-up circuit.
5. Can CQB100W8 replace CQB150W8 directly?
Only when the load remains within the CQB100W8 current and thermal limits. Although both series share the same package dimensions, pinout, remote logic, mounting option and external circuit requirements must be checked before replacement.
