Delta PFB-E and GFB-E 3-Phase Server Fan Introduction

Delta PFB-E and GFB-E fans are designed for next-generation servers, AI computing systems and high-density power equipment where conventional cooling fans may not provide sufficient airflow or static pressure.

The current Delta E-Series includes 40mm, 60mm, 80mm and 92mm fans with rated speeds of up to 32,500 RPM and maximum static pressure of up to 9.73 inH₂O. These specifications make the series suitable for compact server chassis containing dense heat sinks, GPU accelerators, storage devices and restrictive air ducts.

Although these products are described as “3-phase fans,” they do not use industrial three-phase AC power. They are 12V brushless DC fans using a three-phase motor and electronic commutation system.

What Is a Delta 3-Phase Server Fan?

A conventional brushless DC fan may use a single-phase motor structure. Delta E-Series fans use a three-phase motor platform to improve motor control under high-speed and high-load operating conditions.

According to Delta, the three-phase design provides:

  • Smoother switching between motor phases

  • Lower cogging torque

  • Reduced vibration disturbance

  • Smoother rotational torque

  • Improved power efficiency

  • Better suitability for high-speed fan operation

The motor platform is combined with optimized fan blades, electronic drive control and reinforced mechanical construction. The result is a compact fan capable of overcoming the high airflow resistance found inside modern server systems.

Delta PFB-E and GFB-E Model List

The following table lists the currently published Delta E-Series fan models. Airflow and static pressure are maximum free-air and shut-off values. The actual operating point depends on the airflow resistance of the equipment.

The specified operating voltage range for these models is 10.8–13.2 VDC. PWM speed control and tachometer monitoring are available, but the exact wiring, signal levels and connector configuration must be checked against the individual product datasheet.

Delta PFB-E Series

The PFB-E range currently includes three frame configurations:

  • PFB0412EN-E: 40 × 40 × 28 mm

  • PFB0612EE-E: 60 × 60 × 38 mm

  • PFB0812EE-E: 80 × 80 × 80 mm

PFB-E models are suitable when the system requires high rotational speed and strong pressure performance within a specified fan depth.

For example, the PFB0412EN-E reaches 32,500 RPM and 7.43 inH₂O maximum static pressure in a 40 × 40 × 28 mm frame. It may be considered for compact server modules, power supplies and narrow cooling channels where installation depth is limited.

The PFB0612EE-E provides 77.31 CFM and 7.31 inH₂O in a 60 × 60 × 38 mm frame. This combination is relevant to dense 1U and 2U systems requiring more airflow than a 40mm fan can provide.

The PFB0812EE-E uses a deeper 80mm frame and delivers up to 129.56 CFM. Before selecting this model, engineers should confirm that the chassis has sufficient installation depth and that the fan can be serviced without interfering with cables, heat sinks or fan brackets.

Delta GFB-E Series

The GFB-E range currently includes four 56mm-deep models:

  • GFB0412ES-E: 40 × 40 × 56 mm

  • GFB0612ES-E: 60 × 60 × 56 mm

  • GFB0812ES-E: 80 × 80 × 56 mm

  • GFB0912ES-E: 92 × 92 × 56 mm

These models provide a deeper fan assembly for server systems with substantial airflow resistance.

The GFB0612ES-E has the highest published maximum static pressure in the current E-Series lineup at 9.73 inH₂O. It is a candidate for systems containing dense heat sinks, accelerator cards, restrictive grilles or long internal airflow paths.

For larger chassis, the GFB0812ES-E and GFB0912ES-E provide maximum airflow of 136.00 CFM and 165.44 CFM respectively. Their larger inlet area can support high system airflow, although the final performance must still be determined from the fan P-Q curve and system resistance curve.

The GFB0912ES-E is published with ten lead wires. It should not be treated as a conventional four-wire server fan. Engineers must obtain the exact wiring definition and connector drawing before designing or replacing the fan harness.

Typical Applications

Delta PFB-E and GFB-E fans may be considered for:

  • GPU and AI training servers

  • High-density CPU servers

  • 1U and 2U rack servers

  • Accelerator and inference nodes

  • Server power modules

  • High-performance storage systems

  • Network switches and routers

  • Telecom equipment

  • Industrial computing systems

  • Fan walls and redundant cooling modules

Actual suitability depends on the thermal design, chassis pressure loss, operating environment and fan control strategy. A fan should not be assigned to a specific server platform solely from its frame size.
