Vishay T55 Polymer Tantalum Capacitor Selection Guide
The Vishay T55 series uses a sintered tantalum anode, tantalum-pentoxide dielectric and conductive-polymer cathode. Compared with conventional MnO₂ tantalum capacitors, the polymer cathode provides substantially lower ESR and supports higher ripple-current capability.
T55 capacitors are polarized components. Voltage, temperature, ripple current, leakage current and polarity must therefore be checked before selecting a replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the lowest ESR available in the T55 series?
The current datasheet includes ESR ratings down to 6 mΩ, including T55D687M004C0006, a 680 µF, 4 V D-case device.
Can T55 operate at +125°C?
Selected T55 part numbers can operate at +125°C, but additional voltage and ripple-current derating is required. Other T55 ratings are limited to +105°C.
Is T55 AEC-Q200 qualified?
T55 is a commercial high-performance series and is not identified as Vishay Automotive Grade. Use T51 when AEC-Q200 automotive qualification is required.
Does T55 need 50% voltage derating?
Normally no. Vishay generally recommends about 10% derating for polymer ratings up to 10 V and 20% for ratings above 10 V at temperatures up to +105°C. This is less than the derating commonly used for MnO₂ tantalum capacitors.
Can T55 replace an MLCC?
It can replace or supplement MLCCs in some bulk-decoupling applications, especially where DC-bias capacitance loss or piezoelectric noise is a concern. Polarity, leakage current, ESR, footprint and transient requirements must be checked.
What does the ESR code at the end of the part number mean?
It specifies the maximum ESR at 100 kHz in milliohms. For example, 0025 means 25 mΩ and 0006 means 6 mΩ.
