Mini-Circuits BFCN-3600+ 3.3–3.9GHz LTCC Bandpass Filter

The Mini-Circuits BFCN-3600+ is a compact 50Ω LTCC ceramic bandpass filter designed for RF applications operating from 3300 to 3900MHz. With a 3600MHz center frequency, 1.3dB typical passband insertion loss and a miniature FV1206 surface-mount package, it is suitable for RF signal filtering in transmitters, receivers and wireless communication equipment.

The filter provides specified rejection in the DC–1850MHz and 5000–8000MHz stopbands. Engineers should evaluate insertion loss, out-of-band attenuation, RF input power and PCB parasitics before integration.

Insertion Loss and Stopband Rejection

The BFCN-3600+ offers 1.3dB typical insertion loss across the specified 3300–3900MHz passband, with a maximum specified value of 1.8dB.

For unwanted signals, the manufacturer specifies at least 20dB rejection from DC to 1850MHz and from 5000 to 8000MHz. These stopband limits should not be assumed to apply to frequencies between the passband edges and the specified rejection bands.

For receiver applications, engineers should account for filter insertion loss when calculating the overall noise figure. For transmitter applications, verify both RF input power and the required harmonic suppression.

PCB Layout and DC Blocking Requirements

The BFCN-3600+ uses an FV1206 surface-mount package with LTCC construction and wrap-around terminations.

When designing the PCB, consider:

  • 50Ω RF traces: Maintain controlled impedance between the filter and adjacent RF components.

  • PCB footprint: Follow the manufacturer's recommended land pattern and grounding arrangement.

  • RF matching: Check insertion loss and return loss using the actual PCB stack-up.

  • DC blocking: Add external blocking capacitors wherever DC voltage is present at either RF port.

  • Input power: Do not exceed the specified 1.5W maximum RF input rating.

The filter is not intended to serve as a DC blocking component. This is particularly important when integrating it with biased RF amplifiers or active receiver circuits.

Typical Applications

  • 3.3–3.9GHz RF transmitter and receiver filtering

  • Wireless infrastructure and RF front-end modules

  • Band selection in microwave receiver systems

  • RF test equipment and signal conditioning

  • Compact PCB designs requiring LTCC filtering
