ITT Cannon CA Series MIL-DTL-5015 Connector Selection Guide

ITT Cannon CA Series connectors are rugged metal circular connectors derived from MIL-C-5015 and MIL-DTL-5015-style interfaces. The range supports power, control and signal connections in industrial machinery, transportation equipment, defense systems, motors, drives and other equipment exposed to vibration, moisture and mechanical stress.

The CA Threaded family uses screw coupling and includes wall-mount receptacles, cable receptacles, box-mount receptacles, straight plugs and right-angle plugs. Depending on the configuration, the series supports 2 to 65 signal contacts, wire sizes from 26 AWG to 0 AWG and current ratings up to 245 A. Actual electrical and environmental ratings depend on the selected insert arrangement, contact size, service class and termination.

CA3100, CA3101, CA3102, CA3106 and CA3108 Differences

CA3106 and CA3108 plugs are normally selected to mate with compatible CA3100, CA3101 or CA3102 receptacles. Compatibility requires the same shell size, insert arrangement and keying, together with complementary pin and socket contacts.

CA3100 Wall-Mount Receptacle

CA3100 is used where the receptacle must be permanently mounted to an equipment wall or panel. It is suitable for control cabinets, motors, industrial machines and vehicle-mounted equipment.

CA3101 Cable-Mount Receptacle

A CA3101 receptacle may mate with a compatible CA3106 straight plug or CA3108 right-angle plug, provided the insert arrangement, contact gender and orientation match.

CA3102 Box-Mount Receptacle

CA3102 is a flange-mounted receptacle commonly installed on equipment housings, junction boxes and control panels. It normally provides a fixed interface for a cable plug.

CA3102 is frequently paired with:

  • CA3106 straight plugs

  • CA3108 right-angle plugs

The receptacle and plug must have matching shell size and insert arrangement. One side must use pin contacts and the other side must use socket contacts.

CA3106 Straight Plug

CA3106 is one of the most widely searched ITT Cannon CA connector styles. It provides a straight cable exit and threaded coupling.

CA3106 is suitable when:

  • There is sufficient space behind the cable

  • A conventional straight harness exit is required

  • The connector must mate with a panel or cable receptacle

  • Power and signal contacts are combined in one circular interface

CA3108 Right-Angle Plug

CA3108 uses a 90-degree cable exit. It is selected where enclosure depth is limited or where the cable must run parallel to the panel.

CA3108 can provide a more practical installation than CA3106 in compact control boxes, vehicle systems and equipment mounted close to a wall.
