ITT Cannon KJA D38999 Series III Connector Guide

ITT Cannon KJA connectors are D38999-style Series III circular connectors designed for harsh military and aerospace environments. They combine a compact metal shell, high-density contact arrangements, environmental sealing and a triple-start threaded coupling system with anti-decoupling protection.

KJA connectors are available as wall-mount receptacles, selected box-mount receptacles, straight plugs and jam-nut receptacles. Available configurations include standard signal contacts, power contacts, PCB contacts and selected coaxial or high-speed data arrangements.

The KJA family is suitable for aircraft, military vehicles, radar, communication systems, aircraft engines, unmanned systems and other equipment exposed to vibration, shock, temperature changes, dust and moisture.

The current ITT Cannon product page describes KJA/KJB as D38999-style Series III connectors designed for harsh military and aerospace applications. Qualification, QPL status and the exact performance requirements must be confirmed for the specified part number and manufacturing source.

KJA Shell Styles

The number following the KJA prefix identifies the basic shell style.

KJA designationConnector styleD38999-style relationshipInstallation
KJA0Wall-mount receptacleD38999/20-styleFour-hole flange panel mounting
KJA5Box-mount receptacleSpecial configurationFixed equipment or PCB interface
KJA6Straight plugD38999/26-styleFree-hanging cable connection
KJA7Jam-nut receptacleD38999/24-styleSingle-hole bulkhead mounting

KJA5 availability depends on the required configuration and should be confirmed with the manufacturer.

KJA0 Wall-Mount Receptacle

KJA0 is a flange-mounted receptacle installed on an equipment enclosure or panel. It is generally used with a compatible KJA6 straight plug.

KJA0 is suitable for:

  • Avionics enclosures

  • Radar electronics

  • Communication equipment

  • Ground vehicles

  • Aircraft engine controls

  • Power and signal distribution boxes

The panel cutout, mounting-hole spacing, shell size, insert arrangement and rear accessory must be checked before installation.

KJA6 Straight Plug

KJA6 is the cable-mounted straight plug and one of the most common KJA shell styles. It uses a threaded coupling nut and normally mates with a compatible KJA0 wall-mount or KJA7 jam-nut receptacle.

Typical KJA6 part numbers include:

  • KJA6T9F35PN

  • KJA6T13F35PN

  • KJA6T17F6PN

  • KJA6T19F32PN

  • KJA6T19W32SN

  • KJA6T21F35PN27

  • KJA6T23W21PN

  • KJA6T23W35PNL

  • KJA6T25F35SN

  • KJA6T25F43PN

KJA7 Jam-Nut Receptacle

KJA7 is installed through a single panel opening and secured with a jam nut. It is useful where the rear of the panel is difficult to access or where four flange-mounting screws are undesirable.

Typical KJA7 part numbers include:

  • KJA7T11F35PN

  • KJA7T19W32SN

  • KJA7T21F35PN

  • KJA7T23W35SN

  • KJA7T25W42SN

KJA7 receptacles must be selected according to the allowable panel thickness, mounting-flat orientation and required sealing hardware.

KJA vs KJL vs KJ

SeriesD38999 styleCouplingMain advantage
KJLSeries IThree-point bayonetScoop-proof construction and broad aerospace use
KJSeries IIThree-point bayonetLower-profile and reduced-weight installation
KJA/KJBSeries IIITriple-start threadedStrong anti-decoupling performance for high vibration

KJA vs KJB

KJA and KJB belong to the same D38999-style Series III platform. KJA configurations use an all-metal contact-retention system, while selected KJB configurations use a different retention construction. Available materials, finishes and special versions vary between the two families.

The series prefix must not be changed without checking:

  • Contact-retention design

  • Shell material

  • Insert arrangement

  • Environmental performance

  • Required accessories

  • Program qualification

  • Manufacturer availability

Composite connectors should not be substituted automatically for an aluminum KJA connector. Panel grounding, EMI performance, accessory compatibility and program approval must be reviewed.

Main Applications

Military Aircraft

KJA connectors are used for avionics, communication, navigation, engine control and aircraft power or signal distribution.

Radar and Communication Systems

High-density arrangements support multiple signal paths in radar processors, radios, antenna systems and secure communication equipment.

Military Ground Vehicles

The threaded anti-decoupling mechanism is suitable for vehicle electronics exposed to shock and sustained vibration.

Aircraft Engines

High-temperature finishes and secure coupling support sensors, controls and electrical systems installed around aircraft engine environments.

Unmanned Systems

Compact high-density arrangements reduce connector size and harness weight in UAVs and other unmanned platforms.

Test and Ground Support Equipment

KJA connectors provide removable interfaces for aerospace test racks, maintenance systems and ground-support electronics.
