The Pico DC2B-48S is an isolated and regulated high-power DC-DC converter designed to convert a 700–1200VDC input bus into a 48VDC output. It delivers up to 300W and 6.25A, making it suitable for high-voltage DC distribution systems that require an isolated 48V rail.
The module uses a full-brick through-hole package with an aluminum baseplate for conduction cooling. Remote-sense terminals compensate for voltage drop between the converter and load, while integrated protection covers input under/overvoltage, output overcurrent, short circuit and overtemperature conditions.

Applications
Potential applications for the DC2B-48S include:
High-voltage DC distribution systems
Isolated 48V power rails
Industrial power-conversion equipment
Aerospace and defense power systems
High-voltage battery and DC-link systems
Ground-support and test equipment
High-power instrumentation
Systems requiring isolation between a high-voltage bus and 48V loads
Application suitability must be confirmed at the system level. The converter’s electrical specifications do not automatically indicate compliance with a particular railway, aerospace, automotive or safety standard.
When to Choose the DC2B-48S
Choose the Pico DC2B-48S when the system requires:
A continuous input range between 700VDC and 1200VDC
A regulated 48V output
Up to 6.25A or 300W output
High input-to-output isolation
Remote sensing at a physically separated load
Baseplate conduction cooling
A mechanically secured full-brick module
Reverse-polarity and input-voltage protection
Continuous short-circuit protection with automatic recovery
Do not select the DC2B-48S only because the nominal bus is close to 700V. Engineers should include source tolerance, startup overshoot, regenerative voltage and transient conditions. If the input can fall below 700V, the DC2A-48S may be more appropriate.
At 300W output and 82% typical efficiency, the module can dissipate approximately 66W internally. Thermal design is therefore a required part of the selection process.
Related Model Comparison
| Model | Input Range | Nominal Input | Output | Maximum Power | Best Selection Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DC1-48S | 120–370VDC | 200VDC | 48V / 6.25A | 300W | Lower-voltage DC input bus |
| DC2A-48S | 350–700VDC | 500VDC | 48V / 6.25A | 300W | Medium-voltage DC input bus |
| DC2B-48S | 700–1200VDC | 900VDC | 48V / 6.25A | 300W | High-voltage DC input bus |
| DC2B-28S | 700–1200VDC | 900VDC | 28V / 10.71A | 300W | Same input range with 28V output |
| DC2B-24S | 700–1200VDC | 900VDC | 24V / 12.5A | 300W | Same input range with 24V output |
| DC2B-100S | 700–1200VDC | 900VDC | 100V / 2.5A | 250W | Higher output voltage |
DC1-48S, DC2A-48S and DC2B-48S provide the same 48V/300W output but cover different input-voltage ranges. Input-bus voltage is therefore the primary selection factor.
Equivalent and Alternative Models
There is no universal drop-in replacement for the DC2B-48S. A substitute must be checked for input range, isolation, pinout, package dimensions, remote-sense wiring, thermal interface and baseplate-temperature rating.
Possible Pico alternatives include:
DC2A-48S: For a 350–700VDC input bus.
DC1-48S: For a 120–370VDC input bus.
DC2B-28S: For a 28V output at up to 300W.
DC2B-24S: For a 24V output at up to 300W.
DC2B-100S: For a 100V output at up to 250W.
Pico custom configuration: For special input voltage, output voltage, isolation or power requirements.
For a system powered from a nominal 365V PFC bus, DC2A-48S is generally the relevant family member—not DC2B-48S—because 365V is below the DC2B operating range.

Because the DC2B-48S handles up to 1200VDC, engineers should confirm insulation spacing, grounding, fusing, input protection, thermal design and applicable safety requirements before installation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the DC2B-48S require a heatsink?
The module is cooled by conduction through its baseplate. Whether a separate heatsink and forced airflow are required depends on load, input voltage and ambient temperature. At full 300W output, a properly designed thermal path is normally required.
Can the DC2B-48S operate from a 600VDC input?
No. Its specified input range begins at 700VDC. For a bus operating between 350VDC and 700VDC, compare the DC2A-48S instead.
What does the remote-sense function do?
Remote sensing compensates for voltage loss in the wiring between the converter and load. The DC2B-48S can compensate for up to 1V of cable drop. For local sensing, the sense terminals must be connected to the corresponding output terminals according to the datasheet.
