SOURIAU 8STA Lightweight Miniature Connectors Introduction

SOURIAU 8STA Series connectors are compact, lightweight circular connectors developed for motorsport and other applications where installation space, harness weight and connection reliability are critical. They are commonly used in Formula racing cars, rally vehicles, motorcycles, UAVs, sensors, engine control units and data acquisition systems.

The 8STA Series is derived from MIL-DTL-38999 and JN1003 connector technology. It combines a rugged aluminum shell, scoop-proof contact protection, EMI shielding and a quick bayonet coupling system. Color-coded keyway orientations and a visible locking indicator help technicians identify and connect multiple harnesses correctly during assembly and maintenance.

Eaton identifies the 8STA as a preferred connector family for competitive motorsport, particularly for onboard sensors and electrical systems where smaller and lighter interconnects are required.

Available Shell Styles

Cable Plug

The cable plug is used on removable wiring harnesses and mates with a flange, in-line or jam nut receptacle. Its compact integrated backshell supports heat-shrink boots and helps reduce the overall harness size.

A plug part number normally contains shell-style code 6, such as 8STA60609SN or 8STA60812PN.

Flange Receptacle

Flange receptacles mount directly to an enclosure, sensor, ECU or data acquisition unit. Different flange configurations are available for conventional mounting, reduced panel footprint and PCB termination.

Single-hole and integrated-nut versions can reduce installation hardware and save space on compact electronic boxes.

In-Line Receptacle

An in-line receptacle allows cable-to-cable connection without mounting either connector half to a panel. It is useful for detachable sensors, modular harness sections and equipment that requires frequent replacement.

Jam Nut Receptacle

Jam nut receptacles mount through a circular panel cutout and are secured from the rear. They provide compact panel installation and are commonly used on ECUs, power distribution modules and enclosed electronic equipment.

PCB Receptacle

PCB versions connect the 8STA interface directly to an electronic circuit board. They are suitable for ECUs, telemetry modules and data acquisition equipment where external harnesses must connect directly to the enclosure-mounted PCB.

Main SOURIAU 8STA Models

Application Industries

Formula, Rally and Endurance Racing

8STA connectors are widely used in Formula racing, rally cars, endurance vehicles and MotoGP motorcycles. Their low weight and quick mating system support fast maintenance while reducing harness size.

Engine Control Units

Mixed signal and power layouts allow one connector to carry sensor inputs, control outputs and power connections for an ECU. PCB receptacles can be mounted directly to the control unit circuit board.

Sensors and Actuators

Small shell sizes are suitable for pressure sensors, temperature sensors, wheel-speed sensors, throttle systems, pumps and electronic actuators.

Data Acquisition and Telemetry

High-density layouts provide multiple low-current signal paths for data loggers, telemetry equipment, vehicle networks and test instrumentation.

UAV and Lightweight Aircraft

The compact aluminum construction is suitable for unmanned aircraft, payload modules, flight controllers and airborne sensors where weight and space are limited.

Electric and Hybrid Racing Vehicles

Mixed and high-power 8STA configurations can support inverters, battery monitoring, low-voltage power distribution, pumps, control modules and auxiliary electrical systems.
