Input Frequency Range: 4GHz to 10.5GHz
Output Frequency Range: 8GHz to 21GHz
Package: Bare Die
Description: 8–21GHz output GaAs pHEMT MMIC ×2 active frequency multiplier die with +17dBm typical output power, low input-drive requirement and -139dBc/Hz additive SSB phase noise.

RFQ

The HMC561 is a broadband ×2 active frequency multiplier die for microwave local oscillator and clock-generation chains. It converts an input between 4GHz and 10.5GHz into an output between 8GHz and 21GHz.

The device combines frequency doubling and output amplification in one compact GaAs MMIC die. It can reduce the number of separate multiplier, amplifier and matching stages required in point-to-point radio, VSAT, military and test equipment.

Typical Applications

Microwave Local Oscillator Chains

HMC561 can generate an 8–21GHz LO signal from a lower-frequency microwave source. The integrated active multiplier architecture reduces the number of discrete stages required in a conventional frequency-generation chain.

Point-to-Point Radio

The broad output range supports microwave radio systems operating across several licensed and unlicensed frequency bands. Its useful output power can reduce the need for an additional LO buffer amplifier.

VSAT Communication Equipment

HMC561 is suitable for satellite communication terminals and VSAT frequency-conversion assemblies requiring a broadband ×2 multiplier in the local oscillator path.

Clock Generation

The device can support high-frequency clock-generation applications such as SONET OC-192 and SDH STM-64 equipment.

Military and Space Systems

The compact bare-die format is suitable for integration into microwave modules used in radar, communication, electronic warfare and other military or space platforms. Screening and qualification requirements must be specified separately.

Test and Measurement

HMC561 can be used in signal generators, frequency extenders, microwave sources and laboratory test assemblies that require an 8–21GHz output.

HMC561, HMC576 and HMC578 Selection

HMC561, HMC576 and HMC578 are ×2 active frequency multipliers intended for different output ranges:

ModelOutput Frequency RangeTypical Output Power
HMC5618GHz to 21GHz+17dBm
HMC57618GHz to 29GHz+17dBm
HMC57824GHz to 33GHz+17dBm
